Penny Lane or Angee?
This outfit might look a bit Almost Famous to some, but this is so far up my alley it hurts. Vintage, suede, denim, printed scarves?! Seriously, is there anything more on brand for me than that?
The key to nailing this fit was asking “how can I take a basic item and make it unique to my personality?” I’ll tell you how — the base of this outfit is the only non-thrifted item! It’s a super basic denim shirt-dress that worked as the perfect blank canvas to paint my style. Sometimes it’s really hard to find the perfect basic item at the thrift store… you know - the one that lasts and fits you perfectly? Not saying it can’t happen - but it’s a challenge for sure. My advice?
Buy from brands that will last a long time.
One thing that I’ve really been focusing on this year are buying brands that last. It might seem like a lot of money up front, but those fast-fashion pieces will break down after 2 washes and you’ll have to replace it sooner rather than later anyway! Why buy a cheap $15 pair of jeans from Target that will fase or stretch out in a few months when you could buy a sturdy pair of Levi’s for $90 that’ll last years?
Shop smart - buy basics new and ON SALE.
I never buy anything at full price - I’m either going to discount stores (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack) - or I’m waiting for items to go on sale, which happens more often than you’d think. Want a perfect pair of Levi’s? Try signing up for the email list, or shopping Macy’s sales! Looking at Free People and your wallet is already crying? Check out your local Marshall’s.
Some quality brands I like: Levi’s, Eddie Bauer, Columbia, Patagonia, Gap
